ÒRÒMO ADĪYE
The proverbial chick is warned against going to the dump yard
Ikú ni, ikú ni, eni a wí fún, oba jé ó gbó.
She parades herself like a beauty with no sense,
And runs to have a meal in that place without fear.
Àbò òrò là n so, eni a wí i fún, oba jé ó gbà.
She grows fat, she grows fat, but oh it's for the day of the slaughter,
Àgbò ara re n sanra fún alápatà ni.
The hawk encircles the city over and over again.
Kowéè n ké kíkan kíkan l'órùlé àwon adìye.
The hawk looks for food but can't find any,
But on him, luck shines as he finds a stray chick.
Eiye ò kúkú déédé bà lórùlé.
He captures the chick and makes off with her.
Dinner served.
À n gba òròmo adìye lówó ikú, ò ní a ò gbà kóhùnún lo ààtàn loo jeun.
