XENOPHOBIA/LUDDITE OF THE 21ST CENTURY

"What a sad era when it is easier to smash an atom than a prejundice" -Albert Einstein The 19th century Luddites in Europe in relation to social interaction between the Early settlers (The South Africans) and the Late Settlers (The Nigerians). In the quest of what the British lacked in the 18th/19th century brought about a great hardship upon them in which they encountered a problem of over population whereby their population as at then grew at a fast rate; Their population was growing at a geometric rate i.e 3, 9, 27, 81... THE REAPER

Piercing through the menacing sky, Like a gun shot by its trigger. It fills us with a precarious gloom, A death, a heavy situation that looms. It weaves a thread, looms a death, It brings a danger, life endangers. The presence of the Reaper sucks out life, And He would have no need of his scythe to plunge out life. Here is death before our very eyes, War saw, war saw, it cries out. Cruelty, menace, evil in its eyes, The cold of death visible on its grounds. We lived and died, didn't remain alive, We went and wandered but weren't found. How did it all get to this? How did death catch up with our deeds? How have we beheld but haven't seen? How have we not awoken in our sleep? We ran and ran, followed pride, Satisfying our lusts, we took lives. We killed ourselves for  undefined glories, A peace of mind only found in stories. Ideas were our gain but also our loss, We knew the truth or so we thought. Yet as the cold hands of death placed a grip on us,

ÒRÒMO ADĪYE

The proverbial chick is warned against going to the dump yard Ikú ni, ikú ni, eni a wí fún, oba jé ó gbó. She parades herself like a beauty with no sense, And runs to have a meal in that place without fear. Àbò òrò là n so, eni a wí i fún, oba jé ó  gbà. She grows fat, she grows fat, but oh it's for the day of the slaughter, Àgbò ara re n sanra fún alápatà ni. The hawk encircles the city over and over again. Kowéè n ké kíkan kíkan l'órùlé àwon adìye. The hawk looks for food but can't find any, But on him, luck shines as he finds a stray chick. Eiye ò kúkú déédé bà lórùlé. He captures the chick and makes off with her. Dinner served. À n gba òròmo adìye lówó ikú, ò ní a ò gbà kóhùnún lo ààtàn loo jeun. Omótólólá R.K.
